SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – An elderly woman was seriously injured after she was trapped in a home that caught fire Friday morning, according to firefighters.
At 10:30 a.m. Friday, someone called 911 reporting a fire at a home in the 100 block of Tryon Court in the Sierra Oaks neighborhood of Sacramento, according to Sacramento Metro Fire Assistant Chief Scott Cockrum. The caller then unexpectedly hung up.
When firefighters arrived, they found thick black smoke pouring out from the home and no sign of the 80-year-old woman who lives there.
Crews entered the home, which was filled with smoke, and found the woman unconscious in a back bedroom where she had apparently collapsed while trying to escape. She was taken to the Sacramento Medical Center to be treated for serious injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
